GRAU wurde 2014 in Bratislava, der hippen Hauptstadt der Slowakei, gegründet und wird heute von den beiden Partnern Andrej Olah und Filip Marčák geführt. Das interdisziplinäre Team befasst sich mit privaten und öffentlichen Projekten, von der Architektur bis zum Interieurdesign. 2019 wurden GRAU für ihre gelungenen Projekte BISTRO SOHO (in Kollaboration mit gutgut) und OPTIK ZITA verdient mit dem BIG SEE AWARD ausgezeichnet. Der Entwurfsansatz von GRAU ist zugleich simpel und clean, dabei dennoch verspielt und mit einem Augenzwinkern zu sehen. So wie bei der LANGOS BAR, einem super kleinen Projekt mitten in Bratislava. Die Architektur passt zu dem Avantgarde-Ansatz des Inhabers, Lángos (ein ungarisches Nationalgericht bestehend aus einem in Fett ausgebackenen Hefeteig) higher level anzubieten. Am Abend verwandelt sich die Snackbar dann auch wenig überrachend regelmäßig zum lokalen Szenehotspot. Das dazu passende Branding lieferte übrigens NICE GUY.
Ein anderes Projekt, in das ich mich sofort verliebt habe, ist das ebenfalls in Bratislava gelegene Ladenlokal für den Optiker ZITA. Das Design ist gleichzeitig schlicht und im Detail sehr durchdacht. Die Farbwelt wirkt natürlich, warm und einladend, die Möbel, Leuchten und Einbauten sind individuell ausgewählt und gestaltet, aber nicht over the top. Im Vordergrund steht zu jedem Zeitpunkt das Produkt, die Brille. Ein Laden, den man einfach gerne betritt, der zum Entdecken und Verweilen einlädt und im besten Falle auf unaufdringliche Weise zum Kauf verführt. Retail design at its best.

GRAU was founded in 2014 in Bratislava - Slovakia's trendy capital - and is recently led by both partners Andrej Olah and Filip Marčák. The interdisciplinary team deals with private and public projects, from architecture to interior design. In 2019 GRAU were well-deserved arwarded twice the BIG SEE AWARD for their successful projects BISTRO SOHO (in collaboration with gutgut) and OPTIK ZITA. GRAU's design approach is simple and clean at the same time, yet playful and can be seen with a wink. Like the LANGOS BAR, a super small project in the middle of Bratislava. The architecture fits in with the owner's avant-garde approach of offering lángos (a Hungarian national dish consisting of a yeast dough fried in fat) at a higher level. In the evening, the snack bar regularly turns into a local hotspot, not surprisingly. By the way, NICE GUY provided the matching branding.
Another project that I immediately fell in love with is the shop for the optician ZITA, also situated in Bratislava. The design is simple and at the same time very well thought-out in detail. The color scheme is natural, warm and inviting, the furniture, lights and fixtures are individually selected and designed, but not over the top. The focus is always on the product, the glasses. A shop that you simply enjoy entering, that invites you to discover and linger and, in the best case, seduces you to buy in an unobtrusive way. Retail design at its best.

But to be precise there are many places I like to visit again - for instance Stockholm, Ljubljana, Lisbon - but still there are many places that could be (and should be by myself) experienced
