Der gelernte Tischler Jaroslav Juřica hat nicht nur Industriedesign, sondern auch Bildhauerei studiert. "Diese Kombination gab mir die Möglichkeit, Design nicht nur unter funktionalen, wirtschaftlichen oder produktionstechnischen Gesichtspunkten zu betrachten, sondern auch nach Inhalten, Individualität oder einem tieferen Verständnis zu suchen", erklärt Jaroslav, für den der Designprozess vor allem darin besteht, das Material zu verstehen, seine Möglichkeiten zu erforschen, damit zu experimentieren und Neues zu schaffen. "Ob ich mit Papier, Metall oder Beton arbeite, die Möglichkeiten bestimmen das Ergebnis." Dabei setzt sich Jaroslav ungern Grenzen: "Ob es sich um einen in Serie gefertigten Stuhl, einen individuell konfigurierbaren Roller oder eine maßgefertigte Pfeife handelt – mein Ziel ist es, innerhalb der Möglichkeiten Individualität zu finden, die für den jeweiligen Gebrauch sinnvoll ist." Unabhängig von der Komplexität der jeweiligen Designaufgabe, strebt der tschechische Designer in seinem Schaffen stets danach, eine saubere und einfache Lösung zu finden.
Für TON hat Jaroslav 2011 den Stuhl 002 entworfen – eine minimalistisch gehaltene Konstruktion, die aus nur drei Teilen besteht. Zwei davon sind handgebogene Holzprofile identischer Form. Sie dienen gleichzeitig als Beine, Rücken- und Armlehne. Anlässlich des 150-jährigen Jubiläums der Bugholzproduktion in ihrem Werk in Bystřice pod Hostýnem hatte TON einen internationalen Aufruf für die Gestaltung eines neuen Stuhls mit alten Methoden gestartet: "Mein Entwurf ist eine Kombination aus 150 Jahre alter, bewährter Holzbiegetechnik
und einem neuen Designansatz, wobei das wichtigste Merkmal der TON-Produktion erhalten bleibt", so der Designer.
Mit ORIGAMI WALL hat Jaroslav zudem eine originelle Lösung geschaffen, bei der Betonblöcke die Grenzen der Funktionalität und Nutzbarkeit gewöhnlicher vertikaler Gärten sprengen soll. Das System kann als Stützmauer zur Landschaftsgestaltung verwendet werden. Zusätzlich zur vertikalen Wand W55 für den Außenbereich ist für den Innenraum das System W90 erhältlich. Töpfe, Tropfbewässerung und ein System zur Ableitung von überschüssigem Wasser ergänzen das mehrfach ausgezeichnete Produktportfolio.
Die große Bandbreite des kreativen Schaffens von Jaroslav Juřica spiegelt sich nicht zuletzt in dem erfolgreichen Entwurf der YEDOO ALLOY-Kollektion wider. Der Scooter basiert auf einem völlig neuen, innovativen und leichten Rahmen aus gebogenen Aluminiumprofilen. Das Design dieses Rahmens verleiht dem Scooter nicht nur ein schnittiges Äußeres, es garantiert auch optimale Fahreigenschaften. Der Rahmen ist übrigens so konzipiert, dass er sich leicht an verschiedene Radgrößen anpassen lässt und dabei in jeder Konfiguration ideale Fahreigenschaften erzielt.

tatsächlich habe ich keines – ich umgebe mich mit alten, recycelten Dingen, die ich manchmal aufwerte – wie die Pendelleuchte Pantograph, die aus einem alten Stromabnehmer vom Zeichenbrett und einer Artemide Tolomeo Mega Tera besteht. Ich bin allerdings froh, dass ich ein paar Kunstwerke von Freunden in meinem Haus habe, wie die Madonna von Martin Skalický.

Jaroslav Juřica, a trained carpenter, not only studied industrial design, but also sculpture. "This combination gave me the opportunity to look at design not only from a functional, economic or production point of view, but also to search for content, individuality or a deeper understanding," explains Jaroslav, for whom the design process consists primarily of understanding the material, exploring its possibilities, experimenting with it and creating something new. "Whether I work with paper, metal or concrete, the possibilities determine the result." Jaroslav is reluctant to set limits: "Whether it's a mass-produced chair, a customizable scooter or a tailor-made pipe – my goal is to find individuality within the possibilities that makes sense for the respective use." Regardless of the complexity of the respective design task, the Czech designer always strives to find a clean and simple solution in his work.
Jaroslav designed the 002 chair for TON in 2011 - a minimalist design consisting of just three parts. Two of them are hand-bent wooden profiles of identical shape. They serve simultaneously as legs, backrest and armrest. To mark the 150th anniversary of bentwood production at its factory in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, TON launched an international call for the design of a new chair using old methods: "My design is a combination of 150-year-old, tried-and-tested wood bending technology and a new design approach, while retaining the most important feature of TON production," says the designer.
With ORIGAMI WALL, Jaroslav has also created an original solution in which concrete blocks push the boundaries of functionality and usability of ordinary vertical gardens. The system can be used as a retaining wall for landscaping. In addition to the W55 vertical wall for outdoor use, the W90 system is also available for indoor use. Pots, drip irrigation and a system for draining excess water complete the multi-award-winning product portfolio.
The wide range of Jaroslav Juřica's creative work is reflected not least in the successful design of the YEDOO ALLOY collection. The scooter is based on a completely new, innovative and lightweight frame made of bent aluminum profiles. The design of this frame not only gives the scooter a sleek appearance, it also guarantees optimum riding characteristics. Incidentally, the frame is designed in such a way that it can be easily adapted to different wheel sizes and achieves ideal riding characteristics in any configuration.
