Genau wie der Peter Olah (SK) bezeichnet sich der Deutsche Lars Kemper mit einem Augenzwinkern gerne als "Gastarbeiter" in Prag. Seit 2004 mischt das Kreativ-Duo die hiesige Designszene mit ihren minimalistischen, klaren Entwürfen gehörig auf. East meets West. Im Fokus steht dabei nicht selten das Material Glas, dessen kunstvolle Bearbeitung in Tschechien bereits seit einiger Zeit einen enormen Aufschwung erlebt. Die Arbeit mit Glas ist für Lars vergleichbar mit dem Tischlerhandwerk: Wenn man sein Handwerk versteht, ist man im Vorteil. Man muss das Material verstehen, und das gilt doppelt für Glas. "Wenn man etwas herstellen will, muss man wissen, was mit dem Material passiert, mit dem man arbeitet, denn wenn man das nicht weiß, ist der Entwurf nutzlos. Jeder kann Skizzen anfertigen, aber ein funktionales Produkt zu entwerfen und herzustellen, das die Menschen auch benutzen und bezahlen wollen, ist eine echte Herausforderung."
Schlichtheit, Ästhetik, pure Schönheit. Dieses Credo spiegelt sich in allen Entwürfen von Lars wider. Das Konzept der Vase SYMPOSIUM basiert auf der Idee von Zusammenkunft und Dialog, übersetzt in eine spielerische Anordnung von Glasröhren unterschiedlicher Länge. Hübsch arrangierte Schnittblumen sollen besondere Anlässe im privaten oder öffentlichen Bereich optisch untermalen. Mir gefallen auch die Flaschen-Designs für PILSNER URQUELL besonders gut. Die Eleganz, die Details, die Form – bei Lars sieht es so einfach aus, einen alltäglichen Gebrauchsgegenstand in ein Designobjekt zu verwandeln. Ohne dabei dick aufzutragen. Bitte mehr davon! Gläser, Karaffen, Leuchten, Kerzenständer, Pokale ... und dann wäre da noch die Porzellanvase GUMA. Einfach nur cool. Ein Reifen inszeniert als Designobjekt und dazu noch begrünt. What's next?

millions of shapes … every day.
Just like Peter Olah (SK), German Lars Kemper likes to refer to himself with a twinkle in his eye as a "GASTARBEITER/guest worker" in Prague. Since 2004, the creative duo has been stirring up the local design scene with their minimalist, clear designs. East meets West. The focus is often on glass, a material whose artistic processing has been experiencing an enormous upswing in the Czech Republic for some time now. For Lars, working with glass is comparable to carpentry: he says, if you have an understanding of a craft, you have the advantage. One has to understand the material, and this goes double for glass. "If you want to make something, you have to know what's going on with the material you're working with, because if you don't, your design is useless. Anyone can make sketches, but designing and making a functional product that people will want to use and pay for is a real challenge."
Simplicity, aesthetics, pure beauty. This credo is reflected in all of Lars' designs. The concept of SYMPOSIUM vase is based on the idea of gathering and dialogue, translated into a playful arrangement of glass tubes of different lengths. Beautifully arranged cut flowers are intended to visually underscore special occasions in private or public spaces. I also really like the bottle designs for PILSNER URQUELL. The elegance, the details, the shape – Lars makes it look so easy to transform an everyday utilitarian object into a design object. Without laying it on thick. More of this, please! Glasses, carafes, lamps, candlesticks, goblets ... and then there is the porcelain vase GUMA. Simply cool. A tire staged as a design object and greened to boot. What's next?
